Balance was fine in PoR, but they had to go and screw it up by adding the third tier and making classes too powerful in comparison to others.

This reminds of the time I hacked RD.

I "reclassed" her with hacks into a Marshall (Zelgius). And that last Astra was supposed to be Luna. (mis-typed it)

Storyline depends on the game in the series, but in this case... it's too hard to explain. Maybe Red can explain it for you.

I'm starting from PoR.
Prologue :
So, basically, Ike, son of Commander Greil of the Greil Mercenaries is training with Greil (his dad). Then, his sister(mist) comes in, somewhat distracts Greil, and Ike tries (and fails) to land a cheap shot on Greil. Then, sometime later, Ike wakes up, Boyd comes along, Greil tells Boyd to fight Ike because Ike sucks too much to *actually* train against Greil and Boyd sucks as much as Ike.
So, after Ike like... totally pwns Boyd (who we find sucks even more than Ike does at that point in time), Greil makes Ike heal himself, then lets Ike try fighting him again. This time, because Greil holds back, Ike is able to defeat him. However, Ike notices this and mentions it. This pleases Greil and he says something about Ike not being so sucky anymore.

Not Prologue :
Ok, so Greil sends Ike on his first mission with Titania (the local jeigan), Boyd, and Oscar (Boyd's brother). They have to take out a bunch of bandits in some local town. So, they do that, get paid, and go back to their base.
The next day, Greil sends Ike, Titania, Shinon (the other Jeigan), and Gatrie (knight tank guy) to some port town to take care of *more* bandits. When they get there, Gatrie says something about standard thunder and lightning strategy, which is explained to Ike because he sucks at things like strategizing and common sense. After a little while, this redhead (who's hair is more pink), Marcia flies in and is looking for her brother. The captain bandit of the ship that's attacking the port town says they threw him overboard. Marcia makes threats and flies to the left. Then, Ike finds Marcia, tells her that she can leave and that they'd take care of the bandits. Marcia asks Ike's name, Ike tells her, and Marcia leaves saying something about repaying him later.
The next day, some old man delivers a letter to Rhys (Healer guy) to give to Titania. The letter says something about Mist and Rolf (Oscars brother) having been kidnapped. Titania orders Oscar, Boyd, Ike, and Rhys to prepare for battle. However, they're all idiots and rush in to save Mist and Rolf without waiting for Titania. Then, after the bandits at the starting point of that chapter are killed, Titania arrives and scolds them for disobeying orders. Then, they proceed in killing all the other bandits. One bandit survives and threatens to kill Rolf and Mist unless they drop their weapons. So, they drop their weapons and the Bandit tries to kill Rolf and Mist anyways. However, Shinon puts an arrow through the guys head, right between the eyes, from a spot that the bandit was not looking towards. So, we must assume that Shinon can rebound arrows off of walls. They then go back to base and Ike, Oscar, Boyd, and Rhys are all punished.
The next day, Mist wakes Ike up(lol mercenary not being up at the break of dawn) and tells him that Soren (Tactician for the greil mercenaries, also emotionless and stuck up) has come back. This is wierd because Soren isn't supposed to be back from studying (Soren is a mage btw) for a while. The reason he came back was to report something about Crimea (Ike's homeland) being attacked by Daien (directly east of Crimea, sharing a border with it). So, Ike commands the group of Titania, Gatrie, Shinon, Rhys, and Soren on a scouting mission to figure out what actually happened. Turns out, there's a bunch of Daien soldiers who don't listen to words and immediately attack Ike's group. Ike's group, (who isn't so sucky anymore) owns them and then finds a green haired woman fainted in the trees somewhere. They take her back to base and wait till she wakes up.
She wakes up and says she's the Princess of Crimea. Greil believes her and a bunch more Daien soldiers surround the base demanding they give them Elincia(princess). That pretty much proves that Elincia is the Princess of Crimea and everyone starts defending. Eventually, the Daien soldiers give up and leave. Now, because they know Daien is serious about this, they head off to Gallia (directly south of Crimea, sharing a border with it).
After they go through the forest that separates Gallia and Crimea, they are ambushed and they split up to distract the larger group of enemies so they can get the children (Rolf and Mist) and Elincia to safety. This succeeds and Ike's group (the guards) goes to look for Commander Greil. They go inside of some fort (which JUST SO HAPPENS to have EVEN MORE daien troops in there) and meet Mia, who says she was saved by Greil and told to meet with Ike. So, after she meets with Ike, they (everyone except Greil) kill the daien troops (it should be noted that Daien sucks. Always. Until RD. Even then, they still suck). Once Ike reaches their commander, Balmer the fire sage, Ike is all like "Whoa! So you're a mage, huh?" And balmer is all like "lulz ya, and imma burn u 2 cinders nub". But, Balmer doesn't know how to be a mage and all his stats are like... 13 and below O_O. Now, Balmer is dead, and they all go to look for Greil(again). They find Greil completely owning this nub lance woman (Petrine). Once Petrine figures out how nub she really is, she calls in like... 40 Daien troops and makes sure there is no escape. However, beast Laguz (These guys are really strong, don't use weapons like swords and bows and tomes, and turn into cats, tigers, and lions.) come in and scare most of the Daien troops off. The Black Knight comes in, tells Petrine to leave, stares at Greil for a moment, then leaves.

Ok, I'm stopping there because...
1. the text box is now being stupid because of how m uch I typed. (happens in my RP posts also)
2. Important stuff actually starts happening.

tl;dr version : Ike kills a bunch of Daien Soldiers
