| Well I decided to write a FAQ on how to change the encryption on wifi so you can have your DS connect or any other wifi compatible device. Before I start, I must clarify that I only know this for U.S residents or local regions only. I'm not sure if the steps I listed will also work outside of the country but well, best to give it a try. If not, your going to have to call your ISP and ask them for the router address so you can change your settings.
Step 1: Please make sure your connected to the net. xD
Step 2: Open up your internet browser and type in your address bar "http:://192.168.1.1" It should take you to your router's setup. They might ask you for the password to access the setting. The username to it is "admin" and the password is "password" without the quotations.
Step 2+: If that doesn't work, try calling your ISP and asking them the page info for your router's setup and type that in the address bar instead.
Step 3: Look around until you see an option that says "Wireless Settings." Click on that and you'll see something like this or similar to it:
Wireless Settings Wireless Network Name (SSID): Region: Channel: Mode: Security Options None WEP WPA-PSK [TKIP] WPA2-PSK [AES] WPA-PSK [TKIP] + WPA2-PSK [AES] Security Encryption (WEP) Authentication Type: Encryption Strength:
Where it says security options, change it to either "None" or "WEP." The other settings you can try but I doubt your device will allow you to connect to it thus I strongly suggest you use either "None" or "WEP." If your using "None" then other people who have routers can connect to your freely. If your using "WEP" your connection signal is protected by a password which keeps outsides out unless they know they password. (Although I think WEP is the way to go).
Step 4: Skip this step if your using "Security Option: None." For those using "Security option: WEP" It's going to ask you to input a password depending on your encryption strength. 64 Bit is the lowest and 128 is the highest if I recall. 64 Bit allows you to input only 10 letters and numbers from 0-9 and from A-F. If there is already an input where it asks you too, delete it and make up your own password that you can easily remember. Save the settings and it will start to update the router.
Step 5: Turn on your DS or other wifi accessible device and try searching for the access point. If it shows up on your device, then nice work. Just type in your password to the connection and you should be able to connect.
Step 6: Have fun?
P.S: There are some cases as which some routers have an option to allow devices to connect to your router. You have to turn it on if you don't see your connection show up when you scan for an access point on your wifi capabile device.
Well then, enjoy gaming. My next topic will me on DMZ hosting and how to speed up your connection while playing online games.

| I used to do stuff like this a while back and up to now I still do it. I still make mistakes here and there but once I take a look at it, I'll solve it. | |

but question: not all hotspots are compatible with the DS right? To be honest, I never been to a hotspot but they should be compatible since their network is always opened.

web mad. LOL Then it must have been this one then "WPA-PSK [TKIP]" or "WPA2-PSK [AES]" or something else close to it then if it didn't allow you to connect. Then again there is the possibility of too many networks sharing the same connection that it also blocks out incoming ones. Try going back there one day again and testing it out.

| Nice guide. Although WEP is still risky to use, since it can be easily hacked. Too bad us DS users don't have a choice unless we get a DSi, since WEP is what the DS supports. | |

Well, same for using "None" but it's still prefered to have a security on it just in case. The 64bit only allows up to 10 characters to be used as a password from A-F and 0-9 which makes it easier to hack other than the 128bit which is about 50 if I recall which is alot harder to crack.
